Individual Services Under the Self-Determination Program

The Self-Determination Program

What is California’s Self-Determination Program?

California’s Self-Determination Program (SDP) is a voluntary regional center program that was signed into law in October 2013. The SDP provides participants with developmental disabilities and their loved ones with more flexibility, control, and responsibility in choosing the services and supports they need to help implement their person-centered plan (PCP) and Individual Program Plan (IPP) for their preferred future.

Person-Centered Planning

What is Person-Centered Planning?

It all begins with an idea or dream. Person-centered planning (PCP) is an approach to help you work toward achieving your desired goals as you attain your preferred future! The process is driven by you and others you may choose to help identify what you want and need as well as the services and supports that will help you reach your goals. Taking your strengths, preferences and what is most important to and for you, this plan is presented to your regional center and used to develop your Individual Program Plan (IPP).

What Services does Ally Provide?

Your initial person-centered plan and budget/spending plan development is paid for through funds provided by the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) through your regional center.

Independent Facilitation

What is Independent Facilitation?

Individuals who choose to participate in California’s Self-Determination Program have the option to hire someone who helps them implement their Individual Program Plan (IPP). The person chosen to help implement their IPP is called an Independent Facilitator. An Independent Facilitator may take one or more roles including leading your person-centered planning process, locating services and activities, managing staff, and advocating for you.
